From 14 through July 20 next. Brunssum, situated in the south of the Netherlands, host one of the biggest folklore festivals in the world. During the "Parade Brunssum 2000" some 1000 guests from 36 countries will present their culture to - at a rough estimate - 150.000 vbisitors from far and wide. The Parade Brunssum 2000 is aeknowledged by CIOFF, the world-wide umbrella organization of folklore and related festivals. ( Conseil International de Festivals de Folklore et des Arts Traditionnels ).
A wide variety of cultural delights await visitor: performances by variegated dance and musical groups as well as by vocalists. The artists render a better understanding for the customs and habits of their home countries, perhaps even of parts of the world with only vague connotations. Top groups from - amonst others - Black Africa, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Ukraine, India, New Zeeland and China will put their best foot forward. Concepts of tolerance and hospitality become tangible. Friendships for life are formed. It is no wonder that the Parade 2000 is held within the scope of the UN and UNESCO-theme: "Culture of Peace".
